Teachers Learn to "Go With Flow" of Energy
Description
"Local teachers are learning to go with the flow.
A professional development course called 'Energy Theater' brought educators to the Maine Discovery Museum in Bangor Wednesday.
Teachers talked about energy and were encouraged to act out key concepts like matter flow.
The program is part of the Maine Physical Sciences Partnership, a collaboration between rural schools, non-profits, and the University of Maine.
Michael Wittmann, the evening's instructor and a UMaine professor said, 'There is a lot of hands-on learning that happens in classrooms and this is a chance for them to do a particular kind of hands-on learning where the whole idea is figuring out what's going on for everybody involved. It is as interesting for teachers as it is for students.'
The concepts and activities demonstrated are designed to boost effective teaching and learning of physical sciences in grades 6 thought 9."
